Christmas Cheer

Yesterday, was our last day together before our much needed three week winter break. As we were closing out our day, Mrs. Uyehara, gave us the horrendous news about the tragedy in Connecticut. I am very grateful that I got to be with you and share laughter and cheer. I know we had tests to take, learning to complete, and review work to do before the week was over, but we also had a wonderful PJ Party that was lots of fun and with soooo much food...yummy, yummy in my tummy! The best part was watching you all perform. As our day ended, I was so very glad that I was able to send you all home to be with your loved ones. Please be safe, enjoy your break, and I'll see you all very soon.

Remember to get started on your homework/project very soon (pace yourself). I will see you on January 7, 2013!

Christmas T-shirt and Pencil

Hello gals and guys...we are so close to winter break. (Yippee!) This month's shirt and pencil are sooo cute (like always). I couldn't wait any longer and just had to wear my shirt today. You all looked so fabulous!

Did you see that Mrs. Franco has already got started on our January Winter shirt? Make sure you bring in your white T-shirt as soon as possible, so they are ready to go when we come back in January 2013. I can't believe it is already going to be 2013....that means our time together is quickly coming to an end....boohoohoo.

Water Planet

I love this unit! There are so many things to learn, lots of academic language, and many investigations. Here is a list of some tasks we have done so far and I will continue to update as we go along:

1. Sorting & classifying the planets by their composition

2. Putting the planets in order (inner-terrestrial planets & outer--gas giants)

3. Planet experts-reading informational text, making a learning poster & presenting to the class

4. Planet Foldable--placing the planets in order and writing important facts about each one

5. Gravity & Isaac Newton-Took a look at one of Newton's laws of motion---objects travel in a straight line and at constant speed UNTIL something exerts gravity (push/pull) on it

6. Pendulum & Galileo Galilei--learned about his solar system observations with the telescope and how reaffirmed Copernicus' observations that the Sun is the center of our solar system and that earth (and the other planets) orbits the sun.

Remember to review your notes often so that they become permanent in your schema. :)

It was great to SUM-UP our learning with a trip to the CA Science Center to see the Shuttle Endeavour up close. I was speechless and in awe at its size and exterior. It was great minds working together that were able to accomplish such feats.

Hard work, patience, perseverance, and imagination can lead you anywhere.

Another Awesome Author Visit!

It was fabulous to have an accomplished author, such as E.G. Ryan, come to our school to read to us from her collection of books.

I truly enjoyed listening to her read The Dreamies. The characters, the cute illustrations, and the theme from her books is very engaging.

I have to start my collection to have it ready for when I go back down to kinder/first(?).

Make sure to thank Ms. Sinay for arranging the visit. You can also visit her website, egryan.com, to see other books she has published. Remember, it may be you one day reading to a room full of students from your own collection of great books...I can't wait for that to happen!
