Christmas Fun!

The holidays are here and you can feel the excitement in the air. Our Christmas-Pajama Party was so much fun! The kids got to eat up and open their presents. Our Winter Program was fabulous. The kids sang their little hearts out. I really want to thank all the families for all they do and for helping me make this time extra special for your children.

Remember to have your child do a little bit from their homework package every day. This will make it easier on them. We have lots to do when we get back.
Read! Read! Read!

Have a wonderful winter break with all your loved ones and may your days be joyful and merry.

Gingerbread Fun!

We have been very busy learning many different versions of the gingerbread man. They have been writing, reading, listening, and speaking all about their learning. Ask them about their favorite version, their favorite activity, their favorite craft. You can even take them the the library to check-out their favorite version to share with you at home.

It is amazing all that they can do for this time of the year. I really want to thank you for you continuous support an cooperation in making your child's learning rigorous and fun! It has been a wonderful experience.

Thanksgiving Feast

I want to give a HUGE thank you to all the families for making our Thanksgiving Feast such a wonderful success. The students had so much fun! At one point, the room was so silent, because everyone was very busy eating.

Let me know if you would like the full video of the feast.

I hope that Thanksgiving at your homes was also filled with fun, laughter, and many blessings.

Turkey Mania

The students brought in their turkey in disguise projects and they were absolutely fabulous. It is evident that all the families worked really hard with their children. The creativity was amazing. They love to work with you doing these projects. They always talk about what they did with you at home with such joy. Thank you families for making sure your child's project was completed and turned in on time.

Remember that the best way to help our children learn is to support their best efforts, to allow them time to learn from their mistakes, and to let them struggle a little bit in order to develop perseverance and dedication. They need the practice and assurance that it will get better and easier.  Above of all, let's celebrate their accomplishments together.

If your child is not part of the slide, they were absent the day I took the pictures.

Library Fieldtrip with our Buddies

Our library trip was so much fun! We were able to go on our first walking trip with our 5th grade buddies. They were our partners and made sure we were safe on our way there. At the library, we had the opportunity to read so many books. We are looking forward to going back with our new library cards to check out some books. Of course we were starving by then and headed over to the park to eat our lunches and play in the jungle gym. It was so much fun!

October--Ghost Writing--and more!

October was full of fun learning! The students have been busy writing in their pumpkin notebooks everything they have been learning. We read so many Halloween books, and I know Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman was one of their favorites.

The students had to do a picture retelling. They came out great!

Another one of their favorites was My First Ghost by Maggie Miller and Michael Leviton.

This is truly a wonderful story. The children learned all about what makes a good friend by identifying those qualities in the ghost. They gave examples of how they are good friends and how they can be a "better" friend. The students got to make their own ghost friend and write about what they like to do with their ghost friend as a creative piece of writing.

The students did their own writing, added great details. Their imaginations truly soared.

I want to thank all the families for helping their children with their absolutely, wonderful pumpkin projects. The pumpkin characters were great. The kids really loved talking about heir work. Rachelle's even lighted-up! Take a look at their awesome work.

Halloween Day
On Halloween day the students had so much fun. We did lots of Halloween activities, ate pizza, and then got ready with out costumes. Thank you so much for all your support.

The project for November will go out on 11/4/13 and is due on Wednesday, November 20th. It is connected to a piece of literature that we will be discussing in class together. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know through writing, email, or phone.

My Little Frankensteins!

October is one of my favorite times of the year. There are so many fun activities to do with kids at school and home that encourage so much learning. It is the time of year when leaves start changing colors, it gets cooler at night, and the days are so much shorter. This month we will be doing so many activities with pumpkins and bats that include science, math, reading, and writing. You can continue the learning at home by repeating many of the activities we will be doing in class, as well as collecting leaves and classifying them by color or shape, comparing the different types of pumpkins at the market, and retelling family traditions.

This month my students are showcasing Frankenstein t-shirts. I want to send out a huge thank-you to all the families that donated fabric paint. We are already planning our shirts and pencils for November and December. You can start sending another white, plain t-shirt with your child.

A New Journey

Welcome First Graders!
I am so excited to start a new journey with my "firsties". They are so excited about learning. I know we are going to have a blast. I want to thank all the parents for their immediate support and ensuring that your child gets off to a great start by completing their homework, reading every day, and bringing in all their supplies. It makes a huge difference in their learning.

End of the Year for 5th Grade

Our final week together was so much fun! There were so many activities planned out for all of you. The fifth grade teachers really strove to make these last days for you as memorable as possible. The first on the list was Corona Del Mar. It is a beautiful beach in Newport Beach with amazing tide pools. There was even a cave. We were able to see crabs scurrying about, clams glued to rocks, different porous rock formations and steep cliffs. Being so close to the harbor allowed us to be spectators of amazing boats sailing by. You definitely had an amazing time in the cool waters. All the slashing and running through the sands created much laughter in the air. I am so happy you all had so much fun!

Shakey's Pizza
Shakey's Pizza is always a favorite. There was so much food and you all had so much fun hanging out with each other.

Teachers vs. Students--Kickball Game
You all gave the teachers a run for their money. The game was so close, but the teachers made a miracle run at the end and won the game. I am very proud of the good sportsmanship you all showed. The game was exciting and it brought all of us together.

                                     What a match!
Movie Day
Movie day was full of movies, nachos, and hot dogs. The only part I did not like was that I had to spend the day packing. :(

Culmination
Culmination was a very special day for me. After so many years together, you were all ready to culminate. I could not be prouder of you all and all the progress and learning that took place. Not only did we learn so much, you made friendships that will last a lifetime. As you head on out on your next journey, I wish you all the absolute best! Remember that as you all become great professionals, it is important to give back to your communities. Above you, don't forget to invite me to your graduation...I will be there!

Fun Friday-Autograph Day--Last Day of School
Fun Friday needs no explanation. It was a day filled with fun activities.

Knott's Berry Farm
This was a very memorable field trip. You were all so excited to be there. I know for many of you it was the first time in an amusement park, and I am so glad I got to share that experience with you. We were able to get on so many rides, take lots of pictures, and eat lots of food. It will definitely always be ne of my favorite trips.

5th Grade Picnic

It is so sad to realize that our last picnic together has passed.

I know you all looked forward to our end of the year picnic as a time to chow down and spend with friends. I am truly glad this was one of our traditions every year.

Well, the day sure started out interesting enough...
First, we could not get the fire started because of the wind. So much for ready to light charcoal. And, secondly, once the flames got going they seemed to have a mind of their own. After that, the day was as smooth as butter. You all played one thing or another. We definitely had enough hamburgers to feed an army and quench their thirst. I am really glad you all had so much fun. I hope you keep these fond memories with you forever, because being a kid is one of the best things in life.

I will truly miss you all...

Radio Disney was in the House!

We were definitely privileged to have Radio Disney at our school for a very special assembly--"Healthy Happens Here!" There was dancing, singing, moving, and games. It just goes to show that getting your groove on can be fun and healthy!

This summer is an excellent opportunity to continue the good habits of keeping active. Enjoy a ride bike, go swimming, take a dance class, go walking, skateboarding, play a sport, or anything else you can think of. Let us know everything you do this summer on the Kid Blog. It will be a great way to stay connected with your friends.

Reaching for the Stars Million Word Campaign

It is so rewarding to have so many students qualify as top readers. I know we only select one student as TOP reader to receive the medal, but I want you to KNOW that you are all TOP readers. Some of you love books so much that you stay in to read, read after school, and tell me about what you are reading for fun! As you know, I LOVE reading. It has been my vehicle to higher education, adventures, mysteries, knowledge, romance, and so much more. Books were truly my "bestest" friends growing up. There is nowhere you can't travel or things you can't learn when you immerse yourself in a good book.
